Why Applications Fail

Why Journals Get Rejected by Scopus and DOAJ

Evaluators review far more than the quality of your articles. These are the problems we see most often in journals that come to us after a rejection.

Policies that exist only on paper Peer review, ethics and open access policies that are missing, vague, or don't match how the journal actually works.
An editorial board that raises doubts Evaluators look closely at who is on the board, their affiliations, and whether the board reflects the journal's scope.
Irregular publishing Delayed or skipped issues and an uneven number of articles per issue are read as warning signs.
Weak website and metadata Missing English abstracts, inconsistent references, broken DOIs or a confusing archive make a journal look unprofessional.
Content outside the stated scope Articles that don't match the journal's aims, or a scope that keeps drifting, lower an evaluator's confidence.
Applying too early Applying before the journal is eligible means an avoidable rejection, followed by a waiting period before you can re-apply.

How It Works

From First Check to Final Decision

1

Free Readiness Check

Share your journal link. We take a first look and tell you honestly how close you are to applying.

2

Detailed Audit

A full review of policies, editorial board, content, website and metadata, with every gap listed by priority.

3

Fix & Prepare

We work with your editorial team to close the gaps — documents, website, metadata and DOI corrections.

4

Apply & Follow Up

We guide your application and help you respond to evaluator questions until a decision is made.

We don't sell "guaranteed indexing".

Scopus and DOAJ make their own decisions, and anyone promising guaranteed acceptance is a red flag. What we focus on is making sure your journal is properly prepared, so the decision is based on your content and not on avoidable mistakes.

FAQs

Journal Indexing Questions

Questions we hear most from editors preparing for Scopus, DOAJ and Web of Science.

Ask a Question

Scopus only evaluates journals that already have a regular publishing history of at least two years, and the evaluation itself usually takes several months. For most journals, preparation is the bigger factor. A readiness audit shows how much work is needed before you apply.

DOAJ checks your open access policy, licensing, peer review process, editorial board, website transparency and publishing history. A journal generally needs at least one year of publishing or ten research articles before applying. Many applications are rejected on details that look minor, so we check every criterion before you submit.

No, and you should be careful of anyone who does. Indexing decisions are made only by Scopus and DOAJ. Our job is to make sure your journal is properly prepared, so it is judged on its quality rather than rejected for avoidable gaps. 30+ journals in our portfolio are Scopus indexed.

A rejection usually comes with a waiting period before you can re-apply. Scopus states it in the decision, and for DOAJ it is usually at least six months. Use that time well: we review the decision and your journal, then build a fix plan so your next application is stronger.

For most open access journals, Google Scholar and DOAJ come first, and Scopus follows once the journal has enough publishing history. The right order depends on your subject, history and goals. We recommend a plan for your journal in the free readiness check.

Yes. We work with journals on OJS and other platforms. OJS makes many indexing requirements easier to meet, and if it makes sense we can also migrate your journal to OJS.

It depends on how ready your journal is and how much needs to be fixed. After the free readiness check we send a clear, fixed quote, with no hourly billing.

This service is for journal owners and editors. If you are an author or PhD scholar, see our thesis to article service for help preparing your paper for indexed journals.
